All Saints wins again!!

Scottish Education Awards 2004
This year’s Scottish Education Awards ceremony saw All Saints receive the Education for Ambition award for their success in motivating students, with the judges highlighting the school’s “Going Places” project in particular. Headed by Mr Rainey, Principal Teacher of Pupil Support, this project involves not only large numbers of pupils but also parents to help combat negative peer group pressure and making it “cool to learn”.

Tam Cowan hosted the ceremony, with First Minister Jack McConnell and Minister for Education Peter Peacock MSP helping the winners celebrate their awards, along with celebrities from the worlds of sport and entertainment. Former Celtic and Scotland star, Murdo McLeod, was even on the All Saints’ table!

This award follows All Saints success in the 2003 awards where it was recognised as Scotland’s Top School for All due to the successful integration of all pupils. Thomas McDonald, Headteacher at All Saints commented: “We are delighted to be the first school in the country to be presented with a National Award for two consecutive years, highlighting our place as one of the best schools in Scotland. It is great that the hard work of our staff and particularly students is being recognised and rewarded on a national platform.”

Glasgow Young Enterprise Awards
Hot on the heels of the Scottish Education Awards was the Glasgow Area Young Enterprise Awards, where it was no surprise to staff at All Saints when the All Saints team, known as ‘Glaschu’, swept the board!
The Glaschu group had developed their company, selling shares, making and marketing their products to achieve a profit of over £3,000. Their Glasgow themed calendars and writing sets ended up being sold all over the world!

All Saints won five out of a total of six categories, receiving trophies for: Best Marketing; Best Company Report; Best Trade Fair Stall; Best Presentation; and Best Overall Enterprise Company.

Commenting on these awards, Mr McDonald said: “Our team faced strong opposition from many other schools in Glasgow, the majority of them from the private sector, and these great wins show that our pupils can compete at the highest level against other young people from anywhere. No school has ever achieved such success in the very long history of Young Enterprise and we are naturally very delighted and proud of our students.”
