Three in a row for Glasgow Schools Project

Having already won ‘Best UK PPP Project in 2001’ and ‘Best Education Project above £20million in 2002’ at the prestigious publicprivatefinance annual awards, as well as the PPP/PFI Award at the Contract Journal Awards in 2002, Glasgow Secondary Schools Project thought they’d won all the top awards on offer and it was time to give someone else the chance of winning. So you can imagine their surprise when they received yet more accolades by being voted runner up in the Best Operational Education Project section of this year’s publicprivatefinance awards.
This year’s awards, representing the best that PPP/PFI can offer, saw 3ED receive more praise for their achievements in rationalising the council’s schools estate, involving the construction and substantial upgrade of 29 schools. Singled out for particular note once again was the fact that 3ED were able to deliver ten more brand new schools than the Council originally requested.

Joe Linney, General Manager of 3ED commented: "It really is exceptional that we’ve received accolades at the awards three years in a row, including the top prize in 2001. With new projects constantly emerging throughout the UK it is great to see that this project is still being praised and featured highly in any role-call of successful PPP/PFI projects over the past few years."

A spokesperson from the publicprivatefinance Awards said: "The awards highlight true skill, innovation, perseverance and commitment to the delivery of better public services from all organisations and individuals involved. Our dedicated judging panel, consisting of senior industry PFI professionals from both the public and private sectors, shortlisted the best projects in each category."
