2005 PPP Annual Conference comes to Glasgow

St Thomas Aquinas school in Glasgow was one of the locations hosting the June, 2005 PPP Forum annual conference. The school was rebuilt as part of a 1.2 billion Private Finance Initiative deal between 3ED and Glasgow Council to  refurbish and/or extend 19 schools, to build 11 new secondary schools and 1 new primary school and to invest over £15 million in new ICT. This was the first grouped schools PFI project.

The PPP Forum conference focussed on the challenges and successes of PFI across Scotland where projects to date amount to over £2 billion.  This conference is part of the PPP Forum's commitment to highlighting successful PFI projects and demonstrating what PFI is contributing to Britain's public services. It will be preceded by a civic reception hosted by the deputy Lord Provost of Glasgow in the City Chambers.

Glasgow was selected as a venue because of the council's commitment to regenerating its public services and St Thomas Aquinas School and Hairmyres Hospital are the two projects which were used to showcase the success of PFI in Glasgow and to hear from people involved in past and future projects.
