What is the disability access in provision in school buildings?

A key component of the design of new and refurbished school buildings has been to improve access for people with disabilities. There is full accessibility in 17 of the project schools (12 new build schools, and 5 extended or refurbished schools). In addition 6 project schools have been improved considerably for accessibility. Wheelchair access has been created where possible, including the provision of lifts, with 23 out of the 29 buildings now having this facility, wide doorways and ramps. Special provisions for visually impaired pupils have been provided at Rosshall Secondary, and St Roch’s has a special unit for hearing impaired pupils.
