| What information and
communications technology (ICT) facilities have been provided in schools? As part of the project, 3ED is responsible for the provision of a citywide network connecting all of the schools, and managed ICT service in all the secondary schools, as well as providing software and regular training for teachers. 3ED is investing £15m in ICT over the first two years of the project and this equipment will then be refreshed at the mid-point of the 12-year contract. In addition, over £3m is spent each year providing the managed service for ICT. ICT equipment in every school includes dedicated ICT classrooms, networked PCs with internet access, LaserJet printers and DeskJet printers. Teachers are provided with laptop computers and every pupil and teacher has been given his or her own email address and has the opportunity to experience and utilise the latest technology. |
